Twitter Suspended My Account… :(
Yesterday, I got my Twitter account suspended for minimum (?) 1 week.
For as far as I know, it’s not even my own fault.
There seems to have been a problem with an external site, who has sent out loads of spam messages (apparently by accident,… or so they say). My account was flooded with these messages, and I assume that’s why twitter suspended my account.
Less than one year ago, this wouldn’t have been a big deal. But today…
It’s only now I realize how important my Twitter account has become in my marketing efforts. I feel just as lost as that time when Aweber suspended my account.
I tried to get a clear answer on the cause of this, but so far, I have only received an automated reply telling me to report spam messages by DM to @spam (that’s a little hard when your account has been suspended, no?!).
In their initial message they say:
If you feel your account was suspended in error, you may submit a ticket to request reinstatement. However, please be advised your account will not be considered for reinstatement prior to the end of the minimum suspension period stated above.
To be honest, this message bothers me a bit:
whether my account was suspended for a good reason, or because of a mistake that was made, it will remain suspended for the entire period. If you ask me, this gives Twitter the power to suspend accounts as they please.
Anyway, I guess I’ll have to sit this one out. I don’t like it one bit, but it appears there’s not much I can do about it.
The only good thing about this is that I finally sat down to read the entire Terms of Service and Twitter Rules. Something I had better done before, since there were several rules I wasn’t aware of.
I advice you to do the same. It will take only a couple of minutes of your precious time, and by doing so, you might avoid getting suspended in the future.

Thanks for the post, I can imagine how you feel being suspended from using Twitter. i’ll definitely will read their terms trying to avoid any suspension.

Hi Mieke – Twitter have rules re establishing bulk accounts yet have no way to enforce them. Likewise, their rules re SPAM are wishy washy and don’t get enforced either. If they concentrated on these two areas of concern, Twitter would be a better place to be.
At present, with the bully tactics being applied for no apparent reason to accounts like yours, makes me want to scream FOUL but no one is listening.

10 days later, and my account is still suspended.
I asked for an explanation through their helpdesk and by email, without any result. My requests are closed on the same day I send them; they don’t even bother to reply.
When sending an email, I get an automated message that tells me to reply to that message if I believe there has been made a mistake. When I do this, no reply comes in…
This must be the worst service ever!
Well damn I reckon Mieke I didnt know I had to be the police man for spam mailers!
This totally sucks bad. I reckon I am going to check my twitter and tell them to go to hell. Sounds about right.
Mieke, the BS continues I see. *sigh*
They have so much going on, the ‘important’ stuff seems to get overlooked (on purpose). They are catering to the BIG investors – the one’s who are prepared to spend big money with them.
My complaints & your complaints do not get rated as being important. I have read their Terms and Conditions and they allow people to break them on a daily basis. Money talks – real people with real issues don’t matter to them.
I am looking for ways to bring these issues to a head and get some clear resolution, but I am sure if I rattle the cage too much, they will suspend my account as well and it won’t be for a valid reason, just their way of shutting me down.
Take a deep breath and continue asking why – you might get lucky and get an answer.

Hi Mieke I have several twitter accounts and one was suspended back in June this year, I had a similar thing happen in youtube – in both cases it was a slight change in the rules / updated terms that pushed my sites ‘just over the edge’ – with twitter they brought in monitoring auto following / unfollowing – I stopped doing that – but not quick enough for one account. With youtube it was a change in their music licensing rules – which change every other week it seems! Alot of people have been twitter slapped I know – it’s a case of reading the terms – but keeping up with their latest new rules too.
Very emotional topic. I had my account suspended I came across http://twitterunlocker.com I was desperate I gave there technique a try and it WOrked! Pretty easy if you get slapped by twitter go there.
