Everything’s Gone… Again!

Just when everything seems to go like planned…

This morning I noticed my webshop at script-n-softwareworld.com wads down, so I contacted my host. Just now, I received his reply, which started with the most awful words anyone with an online biz can hear:

Do You have A Backup?

This is the third time I lose everything that is on a specific server. I’m glad I learned my lesson the first time: I now have accounts with 4 or 5 different hosting companies, so if something like this should happen, I don’t lose everything. But still…

My entire webshop, with all my digital downloads… gone. It’ll take ages to find the files on my hard disks again, not to mention the enormous amount of time and bandwith I’ll spend on re-uploading.

But, with a little luck, that won’t be necessary…

Just yesterday (!) I had found an ‘Automated Site Backup’ script, which I use to back up the site. I didn’t even have the time to test if it worked. So I’m crossing my fingers it did the job! My most recent db backups were made November 22nd… well, I assume it could have been worse…

My webhost is making arrangements to get everything back online asap – don’t know how long it will take. (That is, if the backup tool worked…)

This is the part I really hate. I’ve lost everything on a server three times, and my autoresponder accounts (and all the email addresses) twice. All in two years time…

I guess it’s my own fault: If I had a proper backup of everything, this wouldn’t be such a disaster. Jee.. I’d prefer to be mad at the webhost instead of myself ;o)
